"The arguments being made by our opponents are simply nonsense
and are a desperate attempt to scare voters with wild speculation."
John Stemberger, Chairman, Florida4Marriage.org
(Orlando, FL) On Tuesday, July 10, 2007, Florida Red and Blue, a group devoted to defeating Florida's Marriage Protection Amendment announced that they have a million dollars in the bank to defeat the Florida4Marriage.org amendment to define marriage between one man and one woman. They also gave a first time look into the strategy they will use to try to defeat the ban on homosexual marriages. Their strategy involves speculating about everything other than what the amendment is about-- namely defining marriage between one man and one woman.
This stealth homosexual group is describing the Florida4Marriage.org amendment in the following irresponsible ways and never even uses the word "gay" or "marriage" at all:
"mean-spirited amendments that will take away the rights of hundreds of thousands of Floridians including young couples and our seniors. This is your chance to scare away others who would make these amendments in other states."
"this attempt to put discrimination in our constitution and take away protections from seniors, police, firefighters and thousands of unmarried Floridians,"
"This amendment threatens the legal protections and benefits of families across Florida,"
"Floridians of all stripes are concerned that government intrusion into their private lives may be written into the state constitution,"
John Stemberger, State Chairman of Florida4Marriage.org said, "These are really unbelievable claims. We expected deception and misrepresentation, but this is over the top and shows how desperate they really are. The same tactic was used in Arizona when they scared senior citizens with the wild charge that their benefits would some how be taken away if marriage was defined between one man and one woman. This liberal Red and Blue group is trying to totally avoid any debate on the merits of homosexual marriage."
From day one, Florida4Marriage.org has been very clear on the meaning and purpose of the Florida Marriage Protection Amendment, on the record before oral argument at the Florida Supreme Court, and to the world on our website.
The Amendment DOES:
1) Define marriage between one man and one woman
2) Prohibits Polygamy
3) Prohibits Group marriage
4) Prohibits Homosexual marriage
5) Prohibits any other faux marriage union that is treated as marriage or the substantial equal to marriage
The Amendment DOES NOT prohibit private or public entities from granting benefits to unmarried persons and does not affect benefits offered or contracted in the private sector.
Florida4Marriage.org is now just thousands of petitions short of finishing its collection of the remaining petitions to be certified on the ballot in 2008. All petitions around the state should be turned in at this time to Florida4Marriage.org, P.O. Box 521339, Longwood, Florida, 32752.
