Poll Shows Florida Marriage Amendment Vote in November Will Be Very Close

A new Quinnipiac Poll released today shows the Florida Marriage Protection Amendment at 58% acceptance statewide. We need the amendment to pass by two more points, or a 60% vote on November 4, 2008.

This is both good news -- and challenging news.

The challenging news is that this is going to be a very, very close race.

The good news is that in virtually every one of the 27 states were state marriage amendments passed, the actual final vote on election day was several points above what the polling showed the days before. The reason for this bump is that our supporters are much more motivated to vote than the average voter simply answering a survey question on the phone.

But we will need everyone's help and participation to pass Amendment 2 and protect marriage as the union of one man and one woman in Florida.

Just this week, California also certified their marriage amendment on the ballot making the East coast and West coast states the only two on the ballot in 2008.  But between the two, we believe Florida will be the biggest battleground in the country on marriage because it will be the closest race. This poll today shows what Yes2Marriage.org has been saying all along-namely, the vote on marriage in Florida will be VERY close.  Southeast Florida is the only area of the state in which the numbers are below 60%.

    3)     Plug into or start a local Yes2Marriage.org meet up group and get involved
HERE. Fathers host a "Dad's Matter" barbecue at your home or a "Dad's Matter" themed men's meeting at your church to let others know about the great need for everyone's help.

Florida has a history of very close elections and this one on marriage will be no different. Please do not hesitate and then learn on November 4 that we lost by only thousands of even hundreds of votes.  All of us will be horrified if that happens.  Please give, register or volunteer now.
