2008 Action Steps for Florida’s Churches

Dear Pastor, will you please help protect marriage in Florida by taking the following three actions steps:

1.       Key Contact: Appoint a Key Contact in your church to work with us (either a motivated layperson or an associate pastor). It is very important that we receive this person’s name, email & contact information as soon as possible.

2.       Citizenship Sundays: Plan now to conduct Voter Registration after your church services during August and September 2008. The deadline to be registered to vote for the November 2008 election is Monday Oct. 6, 2008 which means Sunday Oct. 5 is the last day to register your church members.

3.       Marriage Sunday: Plan now to hold a Marriage Sunday on Oct. 19, (preferred) or Oct. 26 or Nov. 2, 2008. On that day would you consider preaching on the importance of protecting marriage or personally making an announcement encouraging people a) to vote yes on Amendment 2 and b) to participate in early voting? The end goal is to educate people of the importance of marriage as the union of one man and one woman and encourage a “Yes” vote on Amendment 2.   This election will be very close.

GOING THE EXTRA MILE:  For those who would like to really go the extra mile and do whatever they can to help, we would suggest the following:

1)     Take up a one time collection to support this campaign.  This is fully legal and proper.  Churches can support issues but not candidates.  For more information see the Legal Opinions HERE. Checks are made payable to “Florida4Marriage.org”.  Campaigns come and go but this is a unique moment in history when you can help preserve a human institution.

2)     Link a Yes2Marriage.org Banner Ad to your church website.  The logo can be downloaded off our website HERE.

3)     Let a Yes2Marriage.org representative speak to a local or state pastors gathering.  Or call other pastors in your area and ask them to join with you in speaking about marriage and  encouraging people throughout your community to vote “Yes”  on Amendment 2.
